- For a cohort of 16,065 patients, PCCT significantly reduced follow-up imaging recommendations after contrast-enhanced abdominopelvic CT compared with conventional single-energy CT (SECT), with recommendation rates of 8.1% (PCCT), 8.7 (DECT) and 13.5% (SECT).
- Compared with SECT, PCCT substantially decreased recommendations for MRI (5.2% vs. 6.4%), CT (2.0% vs. 5.0%), and ultrasound (1.4% vs. 2.7%), reflecting greater diagnostic confidence and reducing unnecessary downstream imaging.
- The lower follow-up imaging rate translated into projected healthcare savings of nearly USD 115,000, highlighting the potential of PCCT to improve diagnostic efficiency while reducing healthcare costs.
